Ok, probably a dumb question, but do you blog surf??  You know, sit for hours "surfing" thru blogs either for inspiration or just to kill time?  I'm sure we're all guilty of this, but my question to you is this - do you READ everything that these inspirational peeps write on their posts or do you simply scroll thru all the pretty stuff???  I confess, I do not often read the posts - should I feel guilty for this?  I LOVE the creative inspiration I get from surfing, but do not often take the time to read or comment and I guess I'm having a wave of guilt for this.  So if you are reading this and have a blog of your own a) chances are I'm following you too! and b) THANK YOU for inspiring me :-)
That being said, this is also why I try to keep what I have to say to a minimum!  In keeping with that, here are a couple layouts I just finished for Let's Scrap's International Scrapbooking Month challenges:

Here is the sketch for Challenge #17:

And here is my interpretation using Simple Stories "100 Days of Summer" line:

For the hexagons I am not lucky enough to own a hexagon punch, so I printed a template that another Let's Scrap member kindly provided, and I cut all these by hand!  Not the funnest (yes, it's a word!) job, but I'm quite happy with the end result so I'll say it was worth the effort :-)

Here is a close up of the journalling:

And once again, me having way too many photos of any given moment and afraid to throw any away, I added a memory protector Flip Flap by CTMH to add two more photos.  It really was quite the task to get all 8 kids to sit together and sit still long enough for a decent photo - thank goodness for digital!!!

Next is a layout I did for Elizna's challenge #12 - using a Let's Scrap sketch, a banner, and a Bingo card.  Again, this Simple Stories paper line was perfect for just that!

Thanks to all the fabulous scrappy peeps who helped organize the challenges this month at Let's Scrap - You Rock!!

One last layout I just had to share, based on this sketch from last week:

This is my beautiful girl, Jess, from last year's "Cutest Kid" contest - it was a country theme:

I have had this CTMH paper forever and loved it too much to toss or give away, so I'm sooooo happy I finally found a use for it!

Thanks for stopping by my scrap happy place today!
Happy Scrappin'!

So Much To Celebrate!

I just love the month of May!  And no, not just because it's my birthday . . . sshh!  don't tell!  Although celebrating my b-day the same month of National Scrapbooking Month is certainly not a bad thing :-)  Add to that the May long weekend and the sun starting to shine just a little bit more each day, well, it just does not get any better.
This May long weekend was especially great (and no, not just because it was my birthday!), because I took my kids camping with three other girlfriends and their kids.  Four Mom's and eight kids - what a riot it was!

Now this next bit of celebration actually happened in March, but I just hadn't gotten around to bragging about it yet . . .
Each year our local Photo and Scrapbooking store, Photo Express, does a Cutest Baby Contest, where for only $10 you can bring your 0-4 year old in for a photo session, pick one photo to be entered into the contest, and have a chance at winning some great prizes and/or having your baby named "Cutest Baby".  Well last year they began the "Cutest Kid" contest as well, for kids aged 5-10, and so my daughter was able to partake in the contest again.  Some of you may remember me vying for Facebook votes on her photo last year actaully, as she won in the "Facebook Fan Favourite" contest last year :-)
ANYHOW . . . this year we received a phone call that she had placed in the contest and to come to the award ceremony to recieve her prize.  Well to our surprise and swelling pride she recieved the award for "Cutest Kid" for the girl category!!    She was thrilled of course, and smiled big for
days :-)
Here is her winning photo, and the group photo of all the winning kids at the awards ceremony:

And just to brag a little bit more about my beautiful Princess . . . shortly after the photo contest, we brought up maybe cutting her hair for the summer.  See my hair takes FOREVER to grow and if she takes after me, then by cutting it now we a)find out if she likes short hair vs. long hair, and b)give her time to grow it all back before high school if she wants!  While discussing it, we mentioned Locks of Love to her and (I'm holding back tears here) that was the selling point for her.  My best friend has just recently been diagnosed with her second form of cancer - non life threatening this time thank goodness - and she had lost all her hair while battleing the first time.  My beautiful little girl said she wanted to have her hair cut and donated in honour of this friend, and my heart just swelled with pride (and my eyes with tears of course!).
We headed to the salon and learned that Locks of Love is an American company, but that in Canada, and thru that salon, she could donate to Wigs for Kids - even better :-)
Here is my Princess, before, during and after:

Her new short do is super cute and she loves it!!  Mom just loves that there is no more tangles!!

And now I cannot forget some scrapbook action for National Scrapbooking Month!  Although May is proving to be a fairly busy month, I've been popping over to Let's Scrap as often as I can to check out their month long festivities :-)  I know I won't get much done, but so far I have managed to get the first challenge done, based off this sketch:

The title was an idea I "stole" from the August 2010 edition of Scrapbooks Etc., from a layout by Lisa Storms.  I tore the page out as soon as I saw it and knew these pictures would be perfect for it . . . it just took me almost two years to get it done!

So there you have some bits n' pieces of my life at the moment.  Now I have to sign off cuz my "darling" kids are going crazy . . . must be feeding time!

Happy Scrappin'!

Homework Procrastination . . .

Isn't he adorable?!  That is my son when he was a baby and I'm melting just looking at this photos again!  Hard to believe he'll be 5 this year, time really does fly when it comes to babies - makes me think of that country song "You're Gonna Miss This" - well now there's an idea for a title!

Anyhow, let's move from the topic of babies for a minute here, as I can hear my clock tickin' loudly!  As I mentioned in my last post, I have registered for a 20 page layout class called "Scrap Your Stash" this Saturday - National Scrapbooking Day!  and I've been slowly but surely putting together my 20 kits.  In order to do this effectively though, I figured I just HAD to finish the layouts from the last class that I had only partially done . . . hence the procrastination!

But despite the procrastination, I have finished all but one of the layouts from the previous class and can share some of them here with you!  And I have 12 out of 21 kits prepped and ready to go for Saturday!  Had to make a quick run to the photo dept. to print some more photos and I'll have the rest of the kits done up tonight :-)

Ok, some explaination here first, then onto the layouts.  Jennifer's 20 page layout workshop is typically only single page layouts, and, well, I'm a double girl.  Soooo, part of why it takes me so long to finish them is cuz I turn almost all of them into doubles.  I am so super excited for the workshop this weekend though, cuz Jennifer has changed 5 of the layouts into doubles!!  Atta girl :-)

Here are a few of the layouts I converted to doubles:

There's that adorable little man of mine again :-)  He was less than a month old here and wrapped snuggle in our favourite blanket, made by a super talented friend of mine.
This is also one of the first double layouts I've done using two different pattern papers as base pages.  I've seen it in the magazines and liked the look, was just too scared to try it myself.  Went pretty subtle in the differnet patterns here, but the next one is more of a contrast and I really like the effect!  Will be trying this out more often now :-)

LOVED this Basic Grey Hopscotch line!  Bought a ton of it (and maybe regretting that a touch now!), but it goes so well with pics of my DD, Jessica.  Love the Bloomers by BG too!

Another little trick I tried out with my title - using # stickers in place of letter stickers.  I used an upside down 7 as an "L" and a backwards 3 as an "E".  Gives the title some character too me
thinks :-)

Already, well now I must end my procrastination and get my last 9 kits prepped so I can pack up for Saturday.  Really looking forward to spending the whole day scrapping with great scrappy pals!!

Happy National Scrapbooking Day!!!

MIA No More: Back With A Vengeance!

Ok, so I took a BIT of a holiday from posting . . . and scrapbooking for that matter.  Lots of stuff at home was a happenin' and my focus was on that.  Maybe I'll share that info on another post, but for now I'm kinda keepin' it to myself - but it's great news!

It is also great to be scrapping again, and I've been holed up in my craft room every minute I can spare it seems.  I have registered for another one of Jennifer Edwardson's "Scrap Your Stash" 20 page layout workshops this coming weekend (this will be my 3rd time taking this class, I LOVE it!), and in my mad, procrastinating dash to put together my 20 kits, I've been finishing up some other WIP's (work-in-progress).  Yestarday and today I finished my family's camping trip from last summer  AND checked off 4 more Let's Scrap sketches too boot!

This is a layout that I used two 6"x12" Memory Protector Flip Flaps from Close To My Heart.  The flip flaps allowed me to get an additional 12 photos onto this layout!
Here is how the layout started:

Then I added a 6"x12" Flip Flap to the right hand side layout . . .

And then a 6"x12" Flip Flap horizontally placed in the middle of the left hand side layout . . .

And when both Flip Flaps are opened up - Viola!  You have 12 more photo spots (or 11 and one journalling for me!).  I love these Flip Flaps - and they come in 3 more sizes too!

So you can see I had a productive couple of days . . . but now I STILL have to do my "Scrap Your Stash" homework and put together 20 kits!  Yikes!  Shouldn't be a problem . . . unless I get "inspired" again . . .

Happy Scrappin'!
Andie :-)
